The 75th Annual Boys Cross Country State Finals was held on Saturday, October 31st, at the Lavern Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, also known as Cross Country Town, USA. For Southwood’s Braden Sweet, qualifying for the state meet for the 2nd year in row was the culmination of 7 years of hard work, 1000’s of miles run, and the mental fortitude to pursue his goals. Going into the state meet, Braden had the 40th fastest time in the state among all Indiana high school runners.
With the shot of the gun, 207 of Indiana’s top cross country teams and runners sprang forward in an effort to race for early position. Going into the first mile, Braden was running in 50th place. Through mile 2 and mile 3, Braden began making his move, taking over competitors one by one. Finishing in a 3 way tie, only broken by camera review, Braden finished 30th overall in a time of 16:13.3.
Congratulations on an outstanding senior season and cross country career to Braden Sweet as Sectional Champion, 2 time Regional Champion, School Record Holder, and 2 time State Qualifier.
