The Lady Knights hosted a county rival for the second night in a row as the Lady Norse visited Southwood. The Lady Knights won several close matches in their 4-1 win.
#2 singles player Lorynn Hunt got the Knights off to a good start with a tidy 6-2,6-1 win over Maci Sears. Allison Steele soon followed at #3 singles with a 6-3,6-4 win over Chloe Miller. Northfield’s #2 doubles pair of Kelcie Thomson/Erin Whetstone beat Haleigh Snyder/Courtney Andrick 6-2,6-4.
With Southwood clinging to a 2-1 lead, both #1 positions went to decisive third sets. Sidney Prater won the first set 6-4 before Drue Gentry fought back for a 6-1 second set win. Emily Gwillim/Kyrstin Gouveia won the first set 7-5 at #1 doubles before Katy Pefley/Indi Shear took set two 7-5. So, the team utcome was still in question as the third sets began.
Drue Gentry raced out to a 3-0 lead while Northfield took a similar lead in #1 doubles. Drue kept her foot on the pedal and cruised to a 6-0 win to give the Knights the third team point for the team victory. Meanwhile, Northfield’s lead grew to 5-2 at #1 doubles before Southwood staged a comeback to win the third set in a tiebreaker.
The Knights move to 4-4(1-2) on the season and return to action Friday evening at Bluffton.
Southwood won the JV match 4-2. Makayla Murphy won at #1 singles over Alyssa Haupert. Makenna Norman/Hannah Miller beat Thaylor Harner/Ava Smith at #1 doubles. Southwood’s Breklynne Swisher/Madison Snyder beat Tori Bayert/McKenzie Roth at #2 doubles. Madi Swan/Meghan Daub also won.
