Game Recap

The LadyKnights improved their record to 2-0 after another scrappy, physical win over the Pioneer Panthers Tuesday night. The defense started out strong again as Southwood was able to hold Pioneer to only 3 points through the first period, and only 12 at halftime. Unfortunately, the lid seemed to be on both baskets, as Southwood only led 15-12 at the break. The scoring would take off in the 3rd quarter as Erin Lehner would open with a 3 pointer before MaKenna Pace carried the load. MaKenna connected on 3 key 3pointers and 2 free throws to win the quarter 19-11 to extend the lead to double digits. After the lead hovered around 10 points for most of the 4th quarter, the LadyKnights forced several key turnovers that led to some easy baskets to close the game on a 10-2 run and win by the final margin of 19 points.

Individual Stats:
MaKenna Pace – 20 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists
Morgan Farr – 9 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists

Game Recap

The Southwood LadyKnights started their 2017-18 campaign with a nice win. The girls came out with a defensive fervor to start the game, able to shut out Blackford through the first 8+ minutes. Southwood was able to build an 8-0 lead after 4 different LadyKnights scored in the first quarter. They would extend the lead by halftime after 4 more players contributed baskets to lead 19-7 at the break. Blackford would make a little run midway through the 3rd quarter to close the lead down to 5 points. A critical 16 foot jumper followed by a steal and lay-in by Sydney Helfin would stop the momentum and restore the Knights lead. Southwood would go 10-13 from the free throw line in the 4th quarter along with some aggressive defense creating some turnovers extending the lead to the closing margin of victory at 17 points. Southwood won all 4 quarters.

Coach West quote “I’m extremely proud of our team tonight, a tremendous effort especially on the defensive side of the ball. We preach defense every day at practice and to come out and shut them out through the first quarter was exciting to see the work pay-off. We played 10 different players tonight and 8 of them contributed with points. This is a great starting point for our young team – but we’re determined to move forward and upward.”

Individual Stats:
Erin Lehner – 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals
MaKenna Pace – 11 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals

Meet Recap

The Knight Harriers brought a successful cross country season to an end with a trip to the Semi-State competition hosted by New Haven this past Saturday. Senior, Chase Guenin, and Freshman, Braden Sweet, represented the Knights by qualifying as individuals to compete at Semi-State.

Chase Guenin brought his 6 year cross country career to a close by meeting his season goal of qualifying for Semi-State. In a highly competitive field of athletes, Chase finished 104 out of 175. Chase has been a quiet leader through the years by his hard work, competitive drive, and commitment to the cross country team.

Braden Sweet was 1 of only 2 freshman to qualify as individuals to move on to the New Haven Semi-State competition. Braden finished 57th overall in a time of 17:05. We look for Braden’s talent as a young runner along with returning teammates who are all strong competitors to provide a strong foundation and become a building block for the Knight’s cross country program next season.
