The Southwood Knights would like to recognize Class of 2020 BASEBALL PLAYER & TRACK ATHLETE – JACKSON SIMONS.

Jackson is the son of Becky Simons.  He is a four-year participant in Track for the Knight Cindermen and a two-year participant in Baseball for the Knight Niners.  He has earned four varsity letters as a member of the track program (including this season) and a two varsity letters as a member of  the baseball program (including this season).   Jackson earned All-Conference All-Academic First Team honors in the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Jackson’s track career includes the following:

Wabash County Champion – 110 M Hurdles (2017, 2018, 2019) / 300 M Hurdles (2017, 2018, 2019)

Three Rivers Conference Champion –    110 M Hurdles (2019)

IHSAA Regional Track & Field Championships Qualifier – 300 m Hurdles (2017) / 110 m Hurdles (2019) , 300 M Hurdles (2019).

Jackson ‘s baseball career:  Scored 10 runs in a predominate pinch running role for the Three Rivers Conference Champions in 2019.

Jackson is also a four-year letter winner in football and a three-year varsity letter winner in basketball.  Jackson earned All-Conference All-Academic First Team honors in football and basketball in both his junior and senior years.

He enjoys playing video games; sports, and Netflix.

Jackson’s favorite academic class at Southwood was Spanish.

His favorite food is hamburgers.

After graduation, Jackson plans to study business at Indiana University and then pursue a law degree.

His favorite Southwood memory was attending the prom his junior year.  His favorite athletic memory was advancing to the IHSAA Boys Basketball State Championship game in basketball in 2018.

Jackson will be a recipient of the Southwood Honor Blanket (an award which recognizes seniors who have a cumulative grade point average or 3.2 or higher and have amassed six or more varsity letters as a participant); the Knight Loyalty Award (an award which recognizes seniors who have participated in 10 or more seasons and have earned five more varsity letters); the THREE RIVERS CONFERENCE DISTINGUISHED ACADEMIC AWARD (an award presented by the TRC to any senior athlete who has been named to the Academic All-Conference 1st team at least five of the six seasons of eligibility – Jackson is a six time member of that group !); and the THREE RIVERS CONFERENCE SCHOLAR ATHLETE AWARD (an award presented by the TRC to a senior athlete who has an ACT score of 27 or higher or an SAT score of 1240 or higher and is scheduled to graduate in the top 5 % of his graduating class).
